“In Torment” is Arkdown’s latest standalone single that looks at discussing of Britain’s last taboos. The track, which has been released ahead of the band’s second EP, looks at the everyday battle faced by those suffering with mental health problems, specifically social anxiety and depression. The track focuses on the band’s lead singer Kyle Dawson’s experience with such issues and his journey in overcoming them.
“I’ve touched on the subject matter of the song during the shows we’ve performed In Torment and the responses I’ve had from people speaking to me about it afterwards has been amazing because of the positivity that it’s drawn out of them about such a taboo subject. So many people’s lives have been affected by the silent suffering brought on by the likes of social anxiety and depression but hearing someone sing about how they’re not alone in that battle and that things can get better forges hope in people.” – Kyle Dawson (vocalist)
As well as tackling a difficult subject, the track also demonstrates the band’s progression in sound following Arkdown’s 2016 EP Paths. The band is set to complete their second EP by late 2017. “In Torment” will be available to download/stream via all major digital outlets iTunes/Spotify/Amazon etc.
About the Band
Arkdown are an English metalcore band from Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Formed in 2015, the five-piece’s current line up consists of: vocalist Kyle Dawson, drummer Alex Roberts, bassist Ed Morley and guitarists Mike Dyson and Ben Freestone. Taking influence from metalcore genre leaders like Parkway Drive, As I Lay Dying and Bury Tomorrow, the band has developed its own melodic but heavy riff-based style. Straying from the typical clean vocal style found commonly in metalcore, the band’s sound has developed down a heavier route, now bordering on melodic deathcore. After releasing their debut EP ‘Paths’, Arkdown played a host of shows during 2016 supporting big-named acts including Fit For An Autopsy and Martyr Defiled. The band have finalised 2017 tour plans and are set to hit venues all over the UK.
